Clay Pigeon Golf Shot

It is hard enough for me to blast those pigeons while shooting from the hip using a shotgun, these guys attempt it with a golf ball.  Check out the video!

Bullet Impact: Slow Motion

Have you ever wondered what bullets look like when they impact those junk cars you are shooting in the middle of the desert different targets?  This epic video shows a variety of ammunition (shotgun pellets, rifle ammo, frangible ammo, lead pellets from an air rifle, etc.) impacting on all sorts of targets.  My best guess is that the hard surfaced targets are probably steel, and the liquid-esce targets constructed of some sort of gelatin. Hell, even the paper targets looked pretty sweet getting punched out.

I'm not sure I make the direct correlation between deep trance music and bullets impacting, but I suppose finding a single song that is damn near 10 minutes long that isn't trance would be a bit of challenge.  Check out some of the other vids by Kurzzeit including some 3D bullet impacts (glasses not included).

L4D: Teletubbies?

Add this to the file "A day late and a dollar short", but there has been a mod created for Left 4 Dead, in which the zombies are replaced by Teletubbies.  I suppose it is kind of cool, but overall it is just plain creepy.  Oddly enough, zombies seem less frightening than raging Teletubbies.

Coors Light: New Shotgunable Can!

It is simply not enough to "Tap the Rockies" they must be shotgunned!  Coors Light has upped the ante past the cans with blue mountains and big wide mouth vents, to a can with an additional opening.  Why would Coors purpose such and invention?  Handling sharp objects whilst consuming copious amounts of light beer isn't exactly safe.  Coors wants you to drink responsibly while shotgunning beers and not poke holes in their cans to speed up the flow of carbs beer.

I originally found this news brief here, and because it is on the internet it must be true.  Apparently fans are excited about this new invention and the site is down (they should have used squarespace), but good old foxtrot managed to get the info before the site got pwnd.

Golden, CO – The Coors Brewing Company announced today that they will soon begin offering Coors Light in a new “shotgunnable can” that will feature a second tab on its side to allow for easy shotgunning.

Coors is aiming to rid binge drinkers of the tedious burden of searching for the air pocket in a can of beer before it’s punctured, as well as eliminate the possibility of a punctured beer spraying out all its beer before it can be shotgunned.

With the innovation, Coors is aiming to rid binge drinkers of the tedious burden of searching for the air pocket in a can of beer before it’s punctured, as well as eliminate the possibility of a punctured beer spraying out all its beer before it can be shotgunned.

The can is expected to have a large impact on the canned beer market and is one of the first large-scale attempts to court binge drinkers, who spend hundreds of millions of dollars on cheap beer every year.

“While our current wide-mouth vented can does allow the beer leave the can more quickly and create a smooth, refreshing pour, it doesn’t seem to satisfy the customer that prefers to have the beer shot down his throat.” said Coors Brewing Company CEO Peter Swinburn. “That’s why we’ve created this new can. When used in cooperation with the traditional tab located at the top of the can, the shotgunnable can will completely empty its contents in a matter of seconds.”

When asked by a reporter if the can was magic, Swinburn just chuckled and said, “No, it’s mostly just gravity and pressure change and I can’t even begin to tell you how much it means to me that this happened under my watch here at Coors.”

While Coors had been criticized in the past for cheap gimmicks like having a frost brewed liner and a wide-mouth vented can, reception for the shotgunnable can has been overwhelmingly positive and binge drinkers around the country have been raving at its practicality. Steve Tucker, who is national president of the Omicron Iota Upsilon fraternity noted, “It’s about time a beer company listened to the concerns of its customers and crafted a product specifically intended to resolve any complaints they may have.”

Tucker also preordered 1,500 cases of the Coors Light with shotgunnable cans so that he can distribute them amongst its chapters around the country. After placing the order, he seemed to be fighting back tears as he added, “If there’s canned beer in heaven, it’s definitely served in shotgunnable cans.”

MAUL: Electric Semi Auto Shotgun?

photo via defense updateThe Metal Storm Maul isn't a gun from HALO; its an electric powered shotgun that is mounted to the front of an M16. This isn't necessarily an effort to go green, but rather an efficient means of mounting a shotgun in a compact space.

The above video shows the Maul in action, but something seems a little strange. The tester of the Maul is firing offhand and little recoil seems to be present. My guess is that light ammo was used for testing or perhaps the electronic action does something amazing. The barrel of the Maul is constructed from steel and the body is made up of carbon fibre. The beauty of this weapon lies in the multitude of ammunitions and functions it can accomplish. A breaching tool, less than lethal crowd control, and old school shotgun power are just a few of the tasks the Maul is capable of handling.

Information about the Metal Storm is a little light, but here are some additional specs from the manufacturer:

  • Door breaching capability
  • Improved firepower to weight ratio - at 2.75 pounds, the MAUL is the lightest multishot accessory shotgun available.
  • No moving parts - Metal Storm guns have no moving parts for high reliability.
  • Safe operation - The MAUL features a number of mechanical and electrical interlocks making it one of the safest guns to operate.
  • Cost effective - The MAUL is inexpensive to acquire, use and maintain.
  • Lethal/less-lethal in one weapon
  • Boresight aligned
  • Standard battery - off the shelf

We'll see if this ever makes it to the proconsumer level, but overall it looks like a sweet innovation!
