Top Shot Season 4

Top Shot season 4 starts tomorrow, Feb 14th (and hopefully available via hulu on the 15th?).  So if you needed a surprise for that special someone, this might be the solution.  Although it is hard to glean a ton of info from a minute long trailer (more on that below), it looks like a professional shooting contract might be the prize for winning the show.  A decent collection of weapons will grace the screen this season, and that (40mm?) grenade launcher looks pretty bad ass!

The first episode is slated to immediately remove two contestants within the first few minutes of the show.  My best guess is the lady above, or the other female competitor, will be within the first five to go home.  I don't know if it is the pressure or competition, but women always suck it up on this show.  Watching the female SWAT officer from last season choke under pressure was pathetic.  Anywho, episode one will also have an event in which contestants shoot an M1 carbine from a motorcycle sidecar.

As a quick side note, I really wanted to post the official History Channel one minute trailer for season 4 of Top Shot.  In History's great wisdom they have disabled embedding of their youtube video...  Why would they do this?  I'll save you the "old media" rant, but really History get your act together.  I've embedded a bootleg trailer below and you can watch this trailer on youtube with a lot more gun play.

Shot Show 2012 Part IV

It just keeps getting better!  In case you missed my Shot Show coverage: Part I, Part II, Part III

.950 JDJ Largest Centerfire Rifle

$40 a round, and the force equivalent to 10 .30-06 rounds at the same time, this is a behemoth!  Weighing in a 50 lbs you won't be carrying this out to your tree stand to hunt... cars?  Anywho, I'm guessing this cannon rifle probably cost several grand, and I wonder why no one thought about putting a few hundred into a better mounting system.  When it jumps off the shoulder of a big fat guy, you know the recoil is serious! Sure Fire Push Dagger

This dagger looks like a great little "last ditch effort" knife!  I'd bet the Sure Fire name will make this blade way more expensive than it needs to be, but a nice piece of kit nonetheless. Hat Tip Soldier System

Excel Arms .30 Cal Rifle

A modern day take of the the M1 Carbine created by Excel Arms.  I have to ask why?  .30 cal is a weak round for animals (and people) and not exactly cost efficient for plinking all day long.  I feel like this is just a poor version of an AR15, but I suppose it is interesting.  The X-30R starts at about $800, and is not California friendly.  If you want a .30cal just get a vintage M1 Carbine. Stoeger Double Defense

Hey more old guns turned tacti-cool!  Stoeger has a bad ass new double barrel shotgun, available in side by side or over under barrel configurations, called The Double Defense.  Yes, it has all the tacti-cool features you could hope for: rails, fiber optic front sight, and all tactical black!  This shotgun is billed as "home defense" but I don't think two rounds is gonna cut it when the Zombies are clawing at the door.  The Double Defense sounds like it could defend you from two clay pigeons flying at high speed.  This shotty would be better suited for making you stand out at the local "Ah skeet, skeet, skeet," and trap establishment near you.  Hat Tip TTAG

Leupold VX-R Zombie Scope

Did you know zombie items are popular at Shot Show?  The Leupold VX-R is today's zombie related item of the day.  Besides a fancy paint job and cool box, there isn't anything special about this scope.  I guess the green illuminated dot is kinda cool, but if you're hunting zombies in the forest it might blend in with the surroundings.  For $600 I would rather purchase 6 Mosin rifles... I want Korea's Old Rifles!

I read about the liquidation of some vintage U.S. firearms like Garands and Carbines in an article from a Korean Newspaper.  Apparently Korea is sitting on upwards of 100,000 rifles, but the US administration hasn't approved of the sale.  The icing on the cake?  Suggested MSRP of the M1 Garand is $220 and the M1 Carbine is $140.  Those rifles at that amazing price point wouldn't last a second!
