I watched a pretty interesting lecture from one of the DEFCON events today. If you don't know, Defcon is where all the hackers meet up and hack stuff. A lot of the guys are into lock picking and they did some testing on a variety of smaller gun safes. Surprisingly, they were able to pick most of the locks as well as beat the biometric locks. Lol, those cable locks and trigger locks looked to be basically useless as they were picked in seconds.
Be warned the vid is a bit long (and has some swearing) but quite informative.
I love Call of Duty. Plainly stated it is still one of the best FPS franchises ever. The developers have gone with some new ideas for the multiplayer section of the game which they have affectionately titled Wager Mode. In this new style Wager Mode lets you bet with in game points if you can be in the top 3 players in this free for all match. There are various sub modes within Wager Mode which define which weapons will be used.
Although I'm very curious, I'm already concerned about the threat of douche bag hackers and the tied hands of the players abiding by the rules. I hope Treyarch has figured out a way to let the players regulate themselves, or wager mode will be a severe pain in the ass.
Alright folks, I've about had enough. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has been out for several months and I'm still facing issues that should have been fixed. I'm a PC user and here are my gripes:
5. More Players Per Map
Do you remember the good old days of the original COD with tons of people on big maps? The cap for groundwar is 18 players. Maps like Derail, Underpass, and Wasteland could easily support up to 32 players without feeling crowded. The maps simply feel too big to have only 18 players using them.
4. Game Lobby
I once heard a player say "I spend more time in the lobby than I do playing the game." With really short game times (about 10 mins per match) I find myself parked in a lobby waiting. A chat window is seemingly absent, but mics are still active. Unfortunately, after multiple incidents of being f-bombed at by an 11 year old I opted to kill the audio chat. Additionally, when 3 or 4 people drop out of a pending game, I'm stuck waiting for more people to join. Thus the timer keeps ticking, and hopefully enough players are found. I typically find myself bounced and merged a half dozen times before I find a server and then wait another 30 seconds for the game to start.
3. Stop The Hackers.
So after you've finally settled in on a lobby you are met with the hackers. Yes, like the video above these ass hats ruin your game. I've heard rumors that Steam/IW/Someone banned thousands of these cheaters, but I seem to find about 1 out of every 3 games has one. What makes the hacking even worse is the tactical nuke. It doesn't matter if the hacker is on your team or not, your game will end a slow mo mushroom cloud.
2. Vote Kick?
Since hackers are free to use their warez ruining games, the honest players are further punished by being completely helpless. There is no vote kick option. In all honesty if IW were to simply do their job give the people the power to regulate their servers, many of these problems could be avoided. Additionally the kick is handy for the swearing 11 year old or the text spamming douche.
1. Dedicated Servers Alternatives?
I know this is beating a dead horse, but if Infinity Ward is still refusing to budge on the issue of Dedicated Servers, how about some custom games? Remember the old days when we could play custom games of only a certain map? How about banning items like the n00btube or giving the people some say in how many players are in a game? There has to be some type of comprise here, and as a PC gamer I feel like I was short changed.
Yes, CODMW2 is a fun game, and I really enjoy playing it. I miss the playability and customization of the original Modern Warfare, and IW is really punishing the fans. When shelling out $60 for a game some professionalism is expected. IW please fix your mistakes and remind us why we enjoy spending money on your game.
