I have one for my Glock that I take with me when we go out to the desert. And I had one of the big leather holsters when I was in the Corps for the M9 I was carrying at one point.

I like it just fine. It hasn't locked up on me, but I've heard from friends that it does happen. My SERPA covers up enough of the firearm that it doesn't get that dusty inside, just on the butt and the hand grip. Also, when I draw it, my finger doesn't immediately go into the trigger guard. Because of the way the SERPA sits for me, it actually puts my finger right along the slide. It's important to familiarize yourself with your holster no matter what kind it is, and the person that shot themselves with a SERPA... well... you get the point.

I'm not a HUGE fan of it or anything, but it works for me and I haven't found anything I prefer more yet. I've been looking at Raven concealment for a holster for the down the road and would be more than happy to let you know how that turns out.

Jason M comments on Dude Shoots Himself While Using a Serpa Holster

Things I'm noticing:

(1) It looks like the fact he recently switched his holster was a major contributing factor. It sounds like he clicked off the thumb safety of his 1911 thinking it was his thumb-based retention system. In other words: the guy needed to practice with his new holster more, and keep his booger-hook off the bang-switch...

(2) Every Serpa-style holster I've tried (including my Sig holster) has the retention system placed as if you were indexing your finger on the gun. So all I have to do to draw my sidearm is grab it like I always grab it with my finger indexing the side of the gun and draw. Done correctly, your finger isn't on the trigger, but indexed along side the frame. If that's dangerously close to the trigger, then your finger is ALWAYS dangerously close to the trigger whenever you hold the weapon.

So really the lesson should be: don't buy a new holster and figure you can automagically use it like your old holster...

Wolf comments on Negligent Discharge Compilation

Dude, that was a hell of a catch by the older guy around 1.34
