AK Watchband: Escape From Handcuffs, Flex Cuffs & Duct Tape

I enjoy the occasional EDC dump where people show all the cool stuff they have in their pockets.  Most guys would need a purse to carry around an array of blades, 550 cordage (woven into friendship bracelets and key chains), expensive writing instruments, fire starting gear, organic fruit chews, and some type of vintage expensive watch.  While there is nothing wrong with carrying around all that crap, most of it isn't very practical or accessible.

The AK Watchband offers some really valuable tools that can be hidden in a watchband.  Note, this probably won't work on the 1970's knock off Rolex you bought on ebay.  Simply put, the kit includes a mini handcuff key, kevlar cordage (think dental floss that is strong as a Russian bear), and a ceramic blade. This setup is designed for anti-kidnapping and helping you escape if you find yourself in a precarious situation in a dangerous place (I hear Mexico is lovely this time of year).

So the handcuff key will obviously get you out of cuffs, and the ceramic razor blade can slice through duct tape or rope used to bind hands.  What about the kevlar floss?  Well, if you are restrained with those flex cuffs you can use this kevlar cordage to saw through them.  Check out this video to see how it works:

The AK Watchband isn't really anything fancy, and all the escape items are hidden in a piece of bike intertube.  The best part is most folks won't ever even notice that it is there.  If you are travelling in rough parts of the world this could be the best $20 you could ever spend.  That being said, if you are in need of kit like this, practicing with these tools would be a necessity.  Check out gearward to learn more.
