Matt Damon: The Informant!

Matt Damon is back as a spy... taking down a corn syndicate.  Oh yes Damon has dropped the ninja-esce skills of Jason Bourne and has picked up the TPS reports and headed to the office.  He literally looks like he would have fit right into the cast of Office Space.

The Informant! is directed by Soderberg who brought you the star studded Ocean's 11, 12 &13.  I'm not sure how I feel about Damon breaking out of his normal roles as a bad ass or good guy.  His role as the geeky office guy looks like it is played quite well, and the mustache really seals the deal.  My concerns for The Informant! lie within the story and if there is a McGuffin.  From what I can glean from the trailer this looks like the "fish out of water" scenario encountering all sorts of hurdles along the way.  Damon works for a large company that has some workings with corn and he goes to the Feds to put an end to the corruption.  He takes a wire and heads straight into the den of white collar bad guys.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but something is off.  It just doesn't seem to have the hook that takes the audience into the third act.  I also get the same sort of tone that was in Burn After Reading which I didn't particularly enjoy.  We'll see how this movie shakes out and The Informant! will be in theaters in September 2009.
